The first jazz record I ever bought as a teenager was by this master. I did not understand what this sound was then, as I was raised on the smoother jazz sounds of Grover Washington etc, but then again my father also played Stanley Turrentine, Jimmy Smith and Dollar Brand/Abdullah Ibrahim.
